Revealed Week Two: Creator

Revealed // Week Two

CREATOR

God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) spent three days forming the heavens and the earth, and he spent three days filling it. The focus of the creation composition is that everything was formed and filled to be perfectly suited for people to inhabit. More than that, it was to be a place for humans to walk and talk with God. Before we talk about the fall and how God recreates, let’s consider what God originally created and how it reflects his very essence and his intentions.

The following barely scratch the surface of the uncountable ways creation reflects God, but it will provide a starting place for us to continue in wonder. Creation reflects God’s desire to separate light from darkness. The cycles of seasons and days reflect his design of process and transformation. Oceans deep reflect his mysterious and incomprehensible knowledge; but, not to leave us hopeless, he gives us the stars, sun, and moon which reflect his faithful ways that navigate us. And what about the trees and vegetation? They have seeds to bear fruit and multiply reflecting Gods ability to not only provide for us one time, but to continually provide for us—again and again. And the animals! Where to begin? Does the eagle not reflect God’s ability to see in great detail and move in precision? Does a mother bear not reflect his aggressive protection towards his children?

Why all this? For us. We were created in his very image. The image of God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is alive, he breathes, he sees, he hears, he speaks, he desires, he is community, he is love. And in his image we are to work and care for the earth that has been entrusted to us. It is a place for us to walk and talk with our Creator, to commune and know him.

This week, as you read the following daily scriptures, consider the incredible truth that the details of creation, from skies and seas to the number of hairs on our head, reflect God’s nature and his desire towards us.

Day One

Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. Ezekiel 32:17

By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. Hebrews 11:3

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,[a] in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. Romans 1:20

Day Two

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.
Psalm 19:1

(Excerpts from Psalm 104)

You make springs gush forth in the valleys; they flow between the hills; they give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. Beside them the birds of the heavens dwell; they sing among the branches. From your lofty abode you water the mountains; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your work. vss 10 – 13

O Lord, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all: the earth is full of your creatures. vs 24

Day Three

Hear this, O Job; stop and consider the wondrous works of God. Do you know how God lays his command upon them and causes the lightning of his cloud to shine? Do you know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge, you whose garments are hot when the earth is still because of the south wind? Job 37:14-17

Day Four

In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains are his also. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. Psalm 95:4-5

Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! Romans 11:33

Day Five

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. Genesis 1:27-31

Day Six

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance, in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand. I awake, and I am still with you. Psalm 139:13-18

Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you… Matthew 6:26-30
