Recently during prayer for a worship night, I believe the Lord gave a neat picture for that evening. And though it was for that particular place, I believe it will encourage you too.
In the picture (moving picture) the people in the room were given keys. The keys unlocked treasure chests in the room, it seemed like an attic. One by one each chest was spotlighted. Some of them had dust on them. I understood that each chest had wonder-filled treasure in them that the Lord wanted, was pretty excited, to give us.
In response, I said to the Lord, I want to know your treasure. What are the keys to unlock these chests? During our time of worship, I believe two keys were named: Belief and Hunger.
I suppose that wasn’t too hard to figure out, but, if I’m honest, I don’t think those would have been my first guesses. It was a fun surprise! Both are so foundational, yet as we grow as disciples they can become overlooked. Perhaps, forgotten. Throughout the Bible we see the importance of belief and hunger. Here are just a few examples.
Belief
- And [Abraham] believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:6
- When he entered the house, the blind men came to him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.” And their eyes were opened. Matthew 9:28-30
- But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God… John 1:12
- For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. Romans 10:10
If you circled the word believe(d) every time it appeared in the book of John, you wouldn’t be able to read your Bible because of the ink. It’s a major theme. It opens our hearts (chest) to his treasures!
Hunger
- For he satisfies the longing soul, and the hungry soul he fills with good things. Psalm 107:9
- Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Matthew 5:6
- Then Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I have compassion on the crowd because they have been with me now three days and have nothing to eat. And I am unwilling to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.” And the disciples said to him, “Where are we to get enough bread in such a desolate place to feed so great a crowd?” And Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.” And directing the crowd to sit down on the ground, he took the seven loaves and the fish, and having given thanks he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. Matthew 15:32-37
- I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost. Revelation 21:6
I had to ask myself Am I hungry for Lord? The answer is Yes! I’m in hot pursuit of the Lord in my personal life. But, just how hungry am I for more of the Lord in my city? Am I being a good steward of my hunger? I want to unlock the Lord’s treasure chest with my (our) hunger. I want all that wonder to spill out in me, my family, and on every street of my city.
I know there are more keys that unlock the Father’s treasure chests. Belief and hunger were just two that were addressed corporately during our worship time. I’m sure the Lord revealed keys to people for their personal journey.
Towards the end of then worship night, I got quiet before the Lord. I began to see the attic room again with a bunch of opened treasure chests. But there was one chest that remained unopened. I knew exactly what the chest represented for me personally. And I asked the Lord, “What’s the key to the chest? Don’t you want it to be opened?” I think the key to that chest is perseverance. It’s a really long key.
So, friends, can you see the treasure chests waiting for you? And what keys are the Lord showing you? I can’t wait to see all the treasures of the Lord unlocked in you and your family and your city!
