Yesterday we found that we are clothed in gladness in exchange for harsh sackcloth. Today, we add a covering to our heads. Joy’s embrace, its squeeze, covers our bodies and our minds.
And the ransomed of the Lord shall return and come to Zion with singing;
everlasting joy shall be upon their heads;
they shall obtain the gladness and joy. (Isaiah 51:11)
This chapter is a declaration / prayer / wake-up call about God’s comfort to his people. We are the ransomed of the Lord by the blood of Jesus, and we can boldly come before his throne of grace anytime, all the time. In that process, we are crowned with everlasting joy.
Three thoughts:
- If a crown represents authority, the crown of joy means we have joy authority at all times. Feast or famine = Joy. Weeping or laughter = Joy. Death or life = Joy. Valley or mountain = Joy. Battle or rest = Joy. We are crowned citizens, co-heirs with Christ, and this everlasting joy of the Kingdom of God belongs to us.
- Everlasting joy does not end, waver, flee, fizzle out, break, give-up, divorce, die, etc… It is everlasting. It is a constant companion.
- Everlasting joy wraps around our heads, affecting our minds, wisdom, sight, hearing, and perspective.
How bold are you with your crown of joy? Can you feel joy’s presence with you wherever you are? How is joy changing your mind today?
