This fall my small group did a study on peace. We found that peace has friends. There are so many scriptures that connect peace with other things and qualities. For example, Peace and righteousness kiss (Psalm 85:10). So, it’s not surprising that the same is true of joy.
Joy has an entourage. When the Lord fills, clothes, and crowns us with joy, we are also being filled with the friends attached to joy.
Romans 15:13, May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. In this verse we see that joy comes with hope and peace, and, bonus, it comes with the power of the Holy Spirit.
Speaking of Holy the Spirit, joy is one component of the Spirit’s fruit. Check out this tightly knit crew, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
Now, picture the garment of gladness hanging on your shoulders. Can you see the threads of joy, peace, goodness, hope woven throughout?
Where do you see joy’s entourage in the Bible? How are they evident in your life?
