Day 3 // Everyday Response
I know all too well the proud approach to Jesus’ feet presenting a vessel that I crafted and put together with the schemes of my own heart. “Look at what I made!” I boast. “Look at what I can do without you, Jesus!” I believe there is nothing that saddens the heart of God more than when we try to do life on our own. He loves to be in life with us! It’s what he’s always wanted.
Jeremiah 2:17 says, …for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.
The systems that I create to survive without God are not only fake (counter to God’s design), they are broken and fail every time. God is Living Water. His heart is the perfect system that carries everything he is straight to our needy, longing souls.
We have an invitation and the honor to bury ourselves deep in heart system of God. Letting his word flush our minds and saturate our hearts will help us recognize foreign ideas as they try to sneak in. Foreign ideas mock God’s way and plant distrust in us–telling us to build our own, counterfeit, cistern.
The only defense against sneaky counterfeits is the fountain of Living Water. Good news! We have help. The Holy Spirit teaches us the ways of Living Water, showing us the difference between real and fake, truth and lie. He is very good at what he does.
