During worship at my church on Sunday, I saw this picture/scene of me being handed a cup. I chugged it! Stretching my arm out, I said, “More, please!” It was refilled and given back to me. Again, I drank it in one take and asked for a refill. The transaction happened several times. At one point, when asking for a more, I said, “Make it a double.”
I knew this was a picture of how needy I am for the Lord. My prayer is that I become more and more aware of my need for what he is pouring. There’s a difference between being thirsty and being thirsty for what he is pouring. Acts 2:17 says, “In those days, I will pour from my Spirit on all flesh.” Let me emphasize “pour from his Spirit.” Make it a double, Holy Spirit!
There is something crazy-powerful and freeing in our confession of need. It is an act of humility. When we come to Jesus and say, “More, please!” he won’t refuse.
Consider these verses
Psalm 42:1-2
As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
Psalm 63:1, 2, & 5
O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, beholding your power and glory … My soul will be satisfied as with fat and rich food, and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips
Isaiah 55:1 -2
Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.
Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.
