Something We Can’t Plan

This is what planning worship looks like sometimes. (See picture.) I’m looking for notes I scribbled down during meetings, I’m looking at the details of songs and melody lines, I’m considering vocalists and musicians, I’m throwing books across the room, I’m eating snacks, and bringing in pretty plants to keep me calm.

But mainly, I’m on my knees trying to listen to heaven’s activity over the gathering. I find that heaven has a way of honoring everyone involved while, at the same time, opening its gates to release something we can’t plan, can’t fathom, can’t live without, and can’t wait for.

Truth is, I can live without ever singing my favorite songs again. I can live without ever leading another service. But I cannot live without God’s presence, direction, voice, his movement in life. It’s worth the wrestle!
