There is a reason we need hope; it’s because of brokenness. When someone or something is hopeless, there is a giving up or surrender to the pain. But hope sees a future. It is discontent with the present and unwilling to stay wounded or wounding (Stephen Spencer). I LOVE that!
Hope is a longing and expectation for restoration and healing. It’s true for us personally and corporately. I could write a couple of paragraphs to describe why this is true. But, there is something else that has captured my wonder today–God’s discontentment with our brokenness. I honestly can’t think of anything more hopeful.
He’s been discontent with the brokenness of creation since the fall. He sent his only son to reconcile us back to right relationship with him. Hope. Jesus was broken and poured out so that we could be free from sin and healed. Hope. He is our sustainer and provider. Hope. He is still healing people; he is still drawing people with his lovingkindness in the most detailed ways. Hope. He co-labors with us on the earth. Hope. And don’t get me started about heaven. Hope. I can’t fathom the unbrokenness. Whoa!
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13

It is unique for its inventive, playful, and educational word choice, its musically measured phrasing, and its warmth for both reader and character alike. Jessy Mayfield’s beautifully electric illustrations round out a world of color, creativity, and experience that any child (or parent!) will be happy to lose themselves in.
