Let’s zoom in on one line of Isaiah 9 today. Of the increase of his government and of peace, there will be no end. There is more to it than his rule and peace having no end—as if that’s not enough. It’s that they will never stop increasing. We can easily get lost in hopelessness as we look at our circumstances, the current state of nations, our world, the deep darkness that seems to be overtaking. But this passage and its fulfillment in Jesus’ life and anticipated return (come, Lord quickly!) renews our hope!
Darkness will be conquered. But there is no end to the increase of God’s rule. Evil will be annihilated. But God’s peace will keep reigning and increasing. Pain and tears will cease. But of the increase of his government and of peace, there will be no end. It is the zeal of the Lord of hosts that will do this. His passion for us–to be with us forever–is at work. Rest under his wing and the government that is on his shoulder today!
