Day 11: Gift of Peace

I know it’s not very merry and bright to dwell on the cross at Christmas. But…

The contrast between peace and the price paid for it is interesting. How is something so prosperous and whole secured through bloodshed? Among Isaiah’s prophecies of the Messiah are the ones about his death.

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities, upon him was the punishment that brought us peace and with his wounds, we are healed. Isaiah 53:5

As gruesome as the details of the cross of Christ are, it is a gift freely given to us. The Father gave us his Son, and the Son gave us his life (John 3:16). Paul writes, In Jesus all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things…making peace by the blood of his cross (Colossians 1:19-20).

In a couple of days, we switch gears to look at the applications and benefits of peace. But, it is good to remember where these benefits came from and that they allow us to walk and talk with God once again.
