Jesus starts the sermon on the mount with a handful of powerful truths. Among them is, Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God (Matthew 5:9). Peace is a prominent theme throughout the Bible. It is part of kingdom life, it changes our lives, and as children of God, our lives will bear witness to peace.
Our peace will mature as we grow in Christ and become more like him. Peace in our relationships, peace in our speech, peace in our thoughts, peace in our reactions, peace in our pursuits. As the reconciled, we become ministers of reconciliation—ministers of peace.
It’s easy to get down on ourselves. I’m a failure at peace. I’m a bad Christian. Stop those thoughts! Instead, look back and see how far you’ve come from a year ago or five years ago and celebrate the growth. Rejoice in what you’ve learned. Not only is that better than entertaining lies, but it will also encourage us to keep growing in Jesus.
