Songs of Deliverance No.2: Mercy Wins
With accusers circling like vultures, a woman caught in adultery is placed in the middle of them. They asked Jesus if they should stone her hoping to trap him with fault. Jesus bent down and wrote something in the soft sand. I wish I knew what it was. His response was so contrary to hard stones in angry hands. He answered them, “Let him without sin throw the first stone at her,” and went back to writing in the sand.
The accusers left one by one. The Lamb of God, the only one who was without sin, the only one who had a right to judge her spoke with the women, “Where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you? “No one, Lord,’ she said. “Neither do I,” said Jesus, “go, and sin no more.” (John 8)
This is a story of deliverance.
I don’t know what Jesus wrote that day, but I can’t help but wonder if the message written in the soft sand is the same one written in the scars of the Cornerstone — mercy and freedom.

Here are the lyrics
Mercy Wins, John 8
Mercy triumphs over judgement
I will never throw this stone at you
I have come so you could be free
So you could go and sin no more
I took judgement to the cross
From the grave I rose to sing
A song of freedom and of mercy
Won’t you sing, sing with me
Mercy wins
Mercy triumphs
Death has lost
Its claim to me
Mercy triumphs over judgement
I will never throw this stone at you. The message written in the soft sand
Is in the scars of the cornerstone
Go and sin no more
Go and sin no more
You’re free to sin no more
