Follow Him

I was praying recently and heard these two statements. I’ve pondered them in my heart but felt like I was supposed to share the words. I hope they encourage you today.

  • We cannot follow the Lord while trying to perfect our performance. They are at war with each other. (Think of tug of war and rope burns.) Choose which one you want the most, and let go of the other.
  • We cannot follow the Lord while looking back, particularly looking at past disappointments. They are opposite of each other. Choose the view you want, forward or backward. (Think of Lot’s wife becoming a pillar of salt.)

The hardest part of following Jesus is getting past ourselves — taking up our cross. But when we do, we will find he is leading us to life every time.
