$3

I’ve probably shared this story before, but the Lord reminded me of it this morning. I thought it may encourage someone else today too. The main point is that God sees, hears, and responds to our cries.

I was in school at Christ for the Nations. Like many other college students, I was broke. On this particular day, I needed gas to get to work. I cried out to the Lord, “If I could just have $3 to put gas in my car!” (This was way back when three dollars equaled three gallons of gas.)

A few minutes later, no joke, there was a knock at my door. A lady from a couple of apartments down said, hey! We’re moving out of state and have food in our fridge that needs a home. Would you like it?” She and her husband brought four paper bags of groceries to my door. I was set for a couple of weeks. Some good stuff, too.

After everything was put away, I looked up towards Heaven and said, “That’s not exactly what I asked for, but thank you for the food, God.”

I went for a walk around campus. Honestly, I think I was looking for coins on the ground. I still needed gas for my work shift a little later. A minivan drove up to the sidewalk, a window rolled down, and a lady said, “Hey! Remember me?” It was the same couple who had given me groceries just a couple of hours earlier. She motioned for me to come over. “We felt the Lord told us to give you this money. It’s not much, but that is the amount he said to give you.” She handed me some bills folded over, squeezed my hand, and they drove off.

I unfolded the money, and there were three one-dollar bills — Exactly $3.

I don’t know what you’re asking God for today, what you’re believing for, but I know from experience and his Word that he hears our cries. If we are paying attention, we will see that he meets the need and then some. He’s a show-off in the best way!

So, praying your day is filled with groceries and dollar bills. But more importantly, that your day is filled with the evidence that God sees you, hears you, and loves you!
