Get Out of Your Beautiful Buildings

I found this word in a notebook. It seemed fresh and right to share today. I didn’t date it. (Adrienne! You know better than that!) I remember hearing this word and writing it down while reading about Moses and Pharaoh. Fall of 2021, perhaps.

“Get out of your beautiful buildings and look around at my beautiful people. If they’re hungry, give them something to eat. If they’re naked, give them something to wear. I’m not talking about bread alone. I Am the Bread of Life. I Am He who covers sin. Get out of your beautiful buildings and give Me away. Open your mouth and give Me away. Use the thing I put in your hand and declare my goodness. Share my love. Light the world up with what I’ve given so that they may believe. Not for gain. Not for wealth. Not for fame or for face. For Me, with Me, through Me. Get out of your beautiful buildings. Quit investing in things that will not last.”

A quick disclaimer — I left this word unaltered. It is not a judgement or complaint against churches and services. There is a need to gather together and a divine joy when we do. And I have been in sanctuaries where the Spirit of the Lord lingers–crazy good. This word is about remembering that the church is made up of people, not sheetrock. And we were created to dwell together in God–forever–for his glory. A building is just a building until we, the church, start exalting the name of Jesus within its walls.
