A six-week series on a lifestyle of Here I Am
No. 3 Moses
Exodus 3
Summary. Moses was raised in Egypt. He fled the country when he killed an Egyptian who was beating one of his own people, a Hebrew slave. For the forty years, he lived as a shepherd in Midian. One day while he was tending his sheep, he saw a burning bush that was not consumed. “Let me see about this,” Moses said and turned to walk towards the bush. When he turned to see it, the Lord called from the bush, “Moses, Moses!” His reply? “Here I am.” Significant things occurred in their conversation. Here is what I see. One, God called their meeting place holy ground. Two, God shares his heart for Israel with Moses. Three, God gives Moses an assignment to go before Pharaoh and lead Israel out of slavery. Four, God reveals a name for himself, I AM. Lastly, and, perhaps, my favorite part of this account is when Moses asks God, “Who am I that I should go before Pharaoh and bring the children of Israel out of Egypt?” God’s response was, “I will be with you.” What qualified Moses to accomplish the assignment was the nearness of God. Moses’ here I am response resulted in conversations with God, seeing supernatural occurrences and miracles, witnessing the deliverance of Israel, and a continuing meeting with God and experiences in his glory. Highlights and Prayers from Exodus 3 and more
- Moses saw something supernatural and turned to investigate
Prayer: Father, give us eyes to see your movement all around us, the meeting places you are ordaining. Give us the heart to turn towards your activity. If you’re moving, we want to experience it. Whether it be in a church service, in a conversation, in my family, or wherever, that’s where we want to be. Holy Spirit, we befriend you!
- Moses experienced holy ground and conversed with God.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for creating us to walk and talk with you. Thank you for a better covering through the blood of your son, Jesus, so we no longer have to hide from you. We boldly enter your throne room as sons and daughters of God. We declare you are holy, completely separate, absolute perfection. Unite our hearts to fear your name.
- God disclosed his heart for the children of Israel to Moses.
Prayer: The secret of the Lord is with those who fear him (Psalm 25) We’ll be your friends, Jesus! Show us your heart for us, our families, your Church, your bride, and for these days. We partner with you in goodness and faithfulness to see your kingdom reign and advance.
- Moses learned that God’s presence is the best qualification for being his minister.
Prayer: We confess our need for you, Emmanuel. Forgive us for ministering without you. Show us that we are abiding together — us in you and you in us. We echo the cry of Moses — if your glory doesn’t go with us, we don’t want to go.” All we need to be your mouthpiece is your nearness., Open our eyes to see just how close you are.
- Moses witnessed the power of God and deliverance.
Prayer: Do it again, God. We are bound to many idols. Deliverer us! Deliver us from the fear of the supernatural, Jesus. Deliver us from using your power to advance ourselves. We ask for signs and wonders to set people free, for signs that point people to the cross. Holy Spirit, fall on us.
- Moses continued in a lifestyle of meeting with the Lord and experienced glory after glory.
Prayer: My prayer remains the same. May my life be a demonstration of listening and obeying God, participating in a long line of faithful servants. May I be found rejoicing in Your ways and faithfulness so that many generations will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD (Ps.40).
