Day 2: Unescapable, Psalm 139
David understood the treasure of God’s presence. He was, after all, a man after God’s own heart. The sum of his life was building a dwelling place for God. We will look at a handful of David’s writings throughout this series, but let’s start with Psalm 139.
In an intimate description of being made and fashioned by and for God, David writes,
Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I fall from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me. And your right hand shall hold me…For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in mother’s womb.
vs 7-10 & 13
Christ came as flesh and bones among us. It was a manifestation of his presence that has always been with us–even in our mother’s womb. He is eager to be with us. At no point in our lives have we been forsaken by God.
This is Emmanuel — We can’t escape him. He is leading us. He is holding us.
