Day 4: The Word is Near, Deuteronomy 30:1-20 / Romans 10:8
As Moses was nearing his death, he charged Israel to continue to choose life and obey the commands of the Lord God. Among his last words was a promise that God’s word was very near. A little hint of Jesus (John 1).
For this commandment is not too hard for you, neither is it too far off. It is not in heaven that you should say, “Who will ascend to heaven and bring it to us, that we may hear and do it?…But the word is very near you. It is in your mouth and in your heart, so that you can do it. Deuteronomy 30:1-20
Fast forward a few years. Paul applies Moses’ challenge to our confession of faith. When we confess Jesus as Lord, the Word is in our mouths and in our hearts. And whosoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10).
Jesus, we call on you! It’s your name on our lips. It’s your word hidden in hearts. You are not a thing of the past, but with us right here, right now.
This is Emmanuel — It’s not too hard because the Word is near, in our hearts and in our mouths.
Adrienne you always share such insightful encouraging words. Keep on keeping on. May the Lord’s favor and goodness saturate you, in Jesus name.
