Day 5: Refuge, Psalm 91
Can you picture the closeness of being tucked under God’s wing? His everlasting arm around you, pulling you close? Your face pressed up against his rib cage that expands out with breath to the rhythm of a heartbeat? So close that nothing can sneak up on you?
Our refuge isn’t a cathedral where an enemy could surround us. Our refuge isn’t a house where thieves could break in. Our refuge has an invested interest as our deliverer, our protector, and our provider —He is our dwelling place.
I love the end of the Psalm 91. A summary of sorts, but notice our part and the Lord’s response.
Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him because he knows my name. When he calls to me, I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. Psalm 91:14-15
This is Emmanuel—-With one call, he surrounds us, tucks us in, and gives us a place to stay.
I love Psalm 91. I never really thought of him in that context of proximity, this is beautiful.
