Day 7: Do Not Be Afraid, 2 Chronicles 20
The promise of Emmanuel—God with us—extends far past the initial invitation. “I will be with you” is not an empty phrase. These words are and will always be trustworthy.
Jehoshaphat received news of a great army coming against them. He was afraid. In his fear, he sought the Lord. Why? He trusted him. Actually, he gathered all of Judah together to fast and seek the Lord. He cried out one of the best prayers I’ve ever heard.
O God…we do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.
Wow!
As they were assembled, the Spirit of the Lord came upon one of the Levites and gave Judah a strategy for the battle. God’s word concluded with this,
…do not be afraid or dismayed. Tomorrow, go out against them, and the LORD will be with you.
This is Emmanuel — I see your devotion despite your fear. I will be with you.
(They did, by the way. Jehoshaphat and his army took their position in the battle and began to sing praises. God did the rest. I encourage you to read 2 Chronicles 20. Fantastic.)
