Spiritual DNA, John 1
[Jesus] was the true light,
which gives light to everyone entering the world.
He was in the world — the world came to be through him —
yet the world did not know him.
He came to his own homeland,
yet his own people did not receive him.
But to as many as did receive him,
to those who put their trust in his person and power,
he gave the right to become children of God,
not because of bloodline, physical impulse or human intention,
but because of God. John 1:9-13
From creation, we were made to dwell with God. That got messed up in the Garden of Eden. But through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, it has been restored.
When we believe and receive Jesus, our birthright as children of God gets sealed. In the same way our human bodies carry the DNA of our parents and their bloodline, our new birth pumps the spiritual DNA of Jesus and the fullness of the Father through our spirit.
Being born of God restores the dwelling place that was intended from the beginning. It’s his life, his righteousness, that flows in us. Emmanuel is not only standing by our side, fighting our battles, and healing our brokenness—he is the very life in us. That’s an unmatched dwelling place. And nothing but Jesus can satisfy our desire for that union.
This is Emmanuel: The very life in us, our birthright as sons and daughters of God.
