John 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we gazed on his glory… (MOUNCE)
All the waiting, all the watching, all the questions—the hopes and fears of all the years, as Phillips Brooks wrote—were met in Jesus when he came to live among us. I try to imagine what it must have been like for people to realize the Messiah they had heard about all their lives, a history passed on through many generations, was there dwelling among them. John says they could gaze on his glory.
And, then, I wonder, do we realize his presence among us now? Even while we wait for the full fulfillment of Jesus’ coming, do we really get it? Every need and every desire is satisfied in him.
What is the longing? The expectation? The need? The cry? The hunger? The joy? What is the desperation in you today?
As we set our hearts on your coming, Jesus, we see you now. Walk among us in glory and meet every need. Walk around our homes and fill every corner with your presence. Meet us here, Word of God.
