Clay, like flesh, is a weak vessel. Paul suggests that this intentional design is so we can show the surpassing power belongs to God and not us (2 Corinthians 4:7).
We get to walk around in this flesh, this jar of clay. We get to share in Jesus’ death as we release our will to the Father’s will. As we evaporate (see day 8), Jesus’ life is manifest in us.
We get to carry Jesus’ life in us!
So do not lose heart! What we see with our eyes is wasting away–even the strongest pottery weathers. But our inner self is being renewed day by day. All the afflictions are momentary but necessary. They prepare us for an eternal weight of glory beyond comparison.
Think about that statement for a moment. Eternal weight of glory — beyond all comparison.
Woe!
As we set our hearts on Jesus’ coming and his coming again, we wait and watch and let glory do its work. Prepare us, Father. Thank you for making us for your glory—forever.
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
