Glory Day 11: Bread of Life

After Israel crossed the Red Sea, God provided for them. Meat in the evening and bread from heaven in the mornings. God specifically connects his glory to the manna. …in the morning you will see the glory of the LORD… Exodus 16:7.

We know that manna was a shadow of Christ from John 6, when Jesus calls himself the Bread of Life that came down from heaven. Israel got a daily glimpse of the glory of the son of God for forty years in the wilderness.

But when Jesus came to earth, everything shifted—no longer a shadow, but the reality of God dwelling among us. Jesus lists at least three shifts in John 6. But as we read them, let’s remember that to eat of the Bread of Life, to fill up on glory, is to do the will of the Father. That was Jesus’ life! And it was—it is a glorious life.

  • Our spiritual hunger, the deepest longing of our soul, gets satisfied. I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me shall not hunger, whoever believes in me shall never thirst. vs 35
  • We will live forever. Truly, truly I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. vs47
  • We abide in Jesus, and he abides in us. Whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him. vs56

As we set our hearts on your coming and your coming again, we joyfully partake in you, Bread of Life. Daily! There is no life without you and no glory without your life. We come to eat and drink and to abide in you. You’re our deepest longing.
