Glory Day 13: Glorified Through It

When Jesus heard that Lazarus was ill, he said something pretty interesting. He was revealing more of himself. It is hope for anyone who has an ear to hear.

But when Jesus heard it, he said, This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God so that the Son of God may be glorified through it. John 12:4

We know there was at least a four-day delay between this declaration and when Lazarus was raised from the dead. During that delay, there was a lot of misunderstanding, and there were lots of questions.

Is it just me, or does that feel familiar to anyone else?

I don’t know what may have you confined at the moment—an illness, a mistake, a need, a (seemingly) delayed promise, grief, unanswered questions, disbelief, etc., but here is what I do know. If we are willing to wait, even if it feels like a tomb, with our eyes and hope glued to Jesus, not only will he call us out of it, but he will be glorified in it. I can’t think of a better outcome.

Glory is coming. Life is on its way. It’s already at work. So be ready in the waiting because when Jesus calls our name, we gotta get out of the “grave” and move in his life.

Jesus cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come out! The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips…Jesus said to them, unbind him, and let him go. vs 43-44

As we set our hearts on your coming and your coming again, we wait. Be glorified in our waiting and in our dying, Jesus. We know you’re coming with life and glory, and we are ready to move with you.
