There is an exchange that takes place when we give up our rights, our strength, our reputations, our desires—our life—and say yes to the Lord. It is his life for our life, but let’s look at something David wrote as he cried out for salvation.
But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head. Psalm 3:3
David considered the Lord to be his glory.
Fast forward a few years, Joseph and Mary responded in a similar way. As part of a remnant crying out for salvation, they gave up their glory to obey God’s word. In exchange, God’s glory became theirs. What an exchange!
It is no different for us.
As we follow Christ, we take our place in a long, rich history of people—a cloud of witnesses—who trust God’s glory over their own. This is our testimony: He is our glory.
As we set our hearts on your coming and your coming again, Savior of the world, we gladly exchange our glory for yours. Salvation belongs to the Lord; your blessing be on your people!
