Glory Day 21: Presence

A third glory-giving response is to celebrate God’s presence.

David honored the return of the ark of God, which represented God’s presence, to Jerusalem with quite a celebration. He even wrote a song for the occasion with a few glory-giving responses.

  • Glory in his holy name, seek him and rejoice
  • Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples
  • Ascribe to the Lord glory and strength
  • Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name
  • Save us, O God, that we may give you thanks and glory in your praise (1 Chronicles 16)

What is striking me today is how similarly the news of Jesus’ arrival was celebrated.

  • Mary exclaimed, My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
  • A multitude of heavenly hosts praising God saying, Glory to God in the highest
  • And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen
  • Simeon took Jesus up in his arms and blessed God and said, …my eyes have seen the salvation of the Lord…a light of glory to your people.
  • The wise men fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts (Luke 1, 2, Matthew 2)

It is no different for us. We should respond to Emmanuel, God with us, with celebration. Praise God for his coming and for his nearness. Worship him in the splendor of holiness. Rejoice and declare his salvation and light. Bring him a response. Bring him the gift glory.

As we set our hearts on your coming and your coming again, Emmanuel, we rejoice and praise, we seek and worship, and we give you glory.
