Glory Day 22: His Name

To the responses of thanksgiving, letting light shine, and celebrating God’s presence, we add giving God the glory due his name.

The Response of Glorifying His Name

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! Psalm 115:1

What’s the importance of his name? Let’s look at a favored passage, especially this time of year.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Isaiah 9:6-7

That’s why. That’s why the glory is not to us but to his name.

When we respond to his name by giving him all the glory, our lives are a beacon to everything God is. It’s for his sake, and for the sake of his government — established to uphold justice and righteousness. Wow!

As we set your hearts on your coming, Jesus!, and your coming again, we exalt your name above every other. Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
