Day 5: Beacons of Hope
A selection from 25 Days of Hope 2020, adapted 2024
The lighthouse is a longstanding symbol of hope. It stands between land and sea to signal a safe harbor. Lighthouses are/were also used to indicate rough seas and dangerous reefs for sailors traveling in the night.
Like a lighthouse, we are beacons of hope. We have light and life inside of us. Where does this hope come from? The Light of the World, Jesus.
When we testify, when we praise, when we hold firm to the truth of the Gospel, we are shining the light of life for the people around us. We are signaling a safe landing in Christ. We are signaling for truth amid crookedness. We are signaling hope to a dying, weary world desperate for life.
Daily Reading:
A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others…and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
So, shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life. Philippians 2:5
Declaration:
Jesus, as we celebrate your birth and prepare for your return, we uncap the light and hope you have given us. We point people to you with each breath. Be glorified.
