Day 10
A selection from 25 Days of Glory 2023, adapted 2024
When Jesus heard that Lazarus was ill, he said something pretty interesting. It not only revealed more about who Jesus is but also unveiled hope for anyone who has an ear to hear.
But when Jesus heard it, he said, This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God so that the Son of God may be glorified through it. John 11:4
We know there was at least a four-day delay between Jesus’ words and when Lazarus was raised from the dead. During that delay, there was a lot of misunderstanding, and there were lots of questions.
Relatable, right?
I don’t know what may have you confined at the moment—an illness, a mistake, a need, a (seemingly) delayed promise, grief, unanswered questions, disbelief, etc., but here is what I do know. If we are willing to wait, even if it feels like a tomb, with our eyes and hope glued to Jesus, not only will he call us out of it, but he will be glorified in it. I can’t think of a better outcome.
Glory is coming. Life is on its way. It’s already at work. So be ready in the waiting because when Jesus calls our name, we gotta get out of the “grave” and move in his life.
Jesus cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come out! The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips…Jesus said to them, unbind him, and let him go. vs 43-44
As we celebrate your birth, Jesus, and prepare our hearts for your return, we wait. Be glorified in our waiting and in our dying, Jesus. We know you’re coming with life and glory, and we are ready to move with you.
