Praying Through Advent: Peace

DECEMBER 8, PEACE

(The second Sunday of Advent centers on the theme of peace, and the candle lit in the wreath is called Bethlehem’s candle. This week takes a look at the different people in the Christmas story, and their journeys of faith, adjusting, beholding, and waiting. We can learn so much from them and the way they responded to what the Lord was doing then, as we lean into what he is doing now.)

Adoration & Worship
Prince of Peace, the increase of your government and of peace will never end. We are just getting started! Isaiah 9:7

Repentance & Confession
Forgive me, Lord, for harboring offense. You say, blessed are the peacemakers, they will be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9

Petition (asking for personal needs)
Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name. I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever. For great is your steadfast love toward me. You have delivered me. Psalm 86:11-13

Intercession (praying for others)
I pray for my brothers and sisters in Christ who are faint and overwhelmed. Your word says that even though we will have tribulations, we also have peace because you have overcome the world! John 16:33, Psalm 61:2

Thanksgiving
Through your blood, Jesus, poured out on the cross, you have made peace between us and the Father. And you equip us with everything good so we can do your will. To you, God of peace, be glory forever and ever. Colossians 1:20, Hebrews 13:20-21

The above format is adopted from one of my favorite resources, Face to Face by Kenneth Boa. Each day, we are praying scripture back to God using five different types of prayers: Adoration, Repentance, Petition, Intercession, and Thanksgiving. For this series, the scriptures chosen center (and expand) from Advent themes.

There are the three things you need to know about me. I am a child of God, and I love being about his business; I have a gigantic heart for discipleship, worship, leadership, and creative things; I could eat BBQ morning, day, and night. For more information, see the ABOUT page
