LIGHT, SOUND, AND FRAGRANCE: A Repelling Trifecta
The Morning of May 28, 2023
When we shine light in the darkness and release the sound of praise/repentance, sending out high-praise frequencies, the fragrance of worship will fill every room, corner, and high place in our heart. This is a repelling trifecta against unclean spirits and idolatry.
Following is part of a dream I had recently. I believe it is significant and timely for individuals, leaders, and the church. If it resonates with you, I encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit about an interpretation and application. What I’ve provided is a general interpretation.
Dream: I was in a church building (not my church and not a church I recognize) setting up a room in a kid’s area. The walls were yellow. I noticed something small hanging from the ceiling in the center of the room. I didn’t know what it was until two black things began to fly around. I could then clearly see they were bats. I said to the other workers, “We can’t let the kids in here with bats.” We went and checked another room and found a few bats on the ceiling there too. The walls in the second room were a darker yellow. Both rooms were kind of stale and outdated—overlooked. We went back to the first room and found that the walls had turned orange. I could see a ginormous bat hanging in the corner that I had not noticed the first time. Oddly, it was hanging rights side up. I knew it was a mother. When it opened its wings, an upside-down umbrella shape formed that housed hundreds of, if not more, baby bats.
A FEW THOUGHTS on the MEANING
I believe the walls changing colors from yellow to orange is an increased warning. The next color in that progression is red. Thank you for mercy, Father!
Evil spirits and/or idolatry (bats) may begin small but will multiply when not dealt with. The influence will eventually colonize our thoughts and minds (bats hanging from the ceiling) and ultimately will lead to sinful words, deeds, and lifestyles. These influences and idols affect our children and the younger/next generation. God is not allowing / not wanting other influences to hang around. That is a mixture, a diluting of the kingdom of God. I would also suggest that we have made idols of worldly mindsets.
Umbrellas signify a covering, but an upside-down umbrella is a perversion of covering. And in this case, a breeding station for more evil influence. It’s no longer protective but collective. The mother bat hanging upright is concerning, too, as if its presence and influence were intentional, like a strategy. She knew what she was doing and where she was. The target was kids. In another part of the dream, however, senior leaders were affected by the bats as well–in the most subtle ways.
I want to emphasize this scene was in the church. This is not about outside places. This is about what we (individually and corporately) are letting influence our minds and thought processes as the body of Christ. I believe the “older” generation needs to look up, pay attention to what is happening, repent for allowing it, and then, with the Spirit’s help clean house. Dealing with the “bats” starts as individuals and then extends to our sphere of influence whatever that may be, family, friend groups, community, etc. (The great commission starts at home and goes outward: Jerusalem, Judea, and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.)
A HOLY STRATEGY: Light, Sound, and Fragrance
I looked up how to get rid of a literal colony of bats. Interestingly, here are the top three suggestions. One — light up the area, leaving no shadows. Two — use odors to repel them. Three – use sound waves with a high frequency to repel them.
If we apply these spiritually, we shine (we are) light in the darkness. We release the sound of praise/repentance, sending high-praise frequencies. At the same time, our praises release the sweet, yet powerful fragrance of worship in every room, every corner, and in every high place. This is a repelling trifecta against unclean spirits and idolatry.
(Another suggestion was to make a one-way trap door. When the bats fly out for food, they cannot get back in. Friends, Jesus is the Way. He eliminates evil and sin in its flight.)
SCRIPTURE TO CONSIDER
Here are some questions I’ve asked myself and some verses that came to mind. What would you add?
- What have I allowed to influence my thoughts and mindsets?
- What am I giving my mind/imagination over to?
- What protections have I turned upside down?
- What am I using to harbor sin or arguments against God instead of protecting myself and others from them?
- Where are there perversions of truths in my life?
For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14
Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:104-105
About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened. Acts 16:25-26
Mary therefore took a pound of expensive ointment made from pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. John 12:3
We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD and his might, and the wonders he has done. Psalm 78:4
POSSIBLE ACTION STEPS
Again, I encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit for further interpretation and application.
- The hour is urgent. Holy Spirit, search our hearts, soul, mind, and strength. Open our eyes to see what we are letting hang around. Protect our life and the life of the next generation. Pray for your children’s ministry, children’s pastors, and church leadership, too.
- Shine a light in the darkness, expose evil. Start praising God over your heart, home, and ministry—not just words but really exalting the Lord. Use the Word of God, too. The aroma of worship will take over at that point.

New book coming 6.20.23
For the church to be light in deep darkness, we need to be after the heart of God. We need leaders who will fearlessly pursue God’s heart and equip others to do the same. Not As Man Sees is a cry for leaders in the kingdom of God to revisit an ancient, unshakable, tried and true approach to leadership. This is the standard God seeks,
The Lord seeks for a man after his own heart—For the Lord sees not as man sees; man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart. 1 Samuel 13.
For the purpose of this book, a leader is any mature believer who is willing to equip others to grow in Christ. The hour is urgent. We need disciple makers everywhere!
This is so good. I read it the first time with a religious spirit, thinking outside of myself. Then I had to read it again and thinking of me. I am the church, the tabernacle of Holy Spirit. What darkness have I allowed to be consistent that the enemy finds cover to dwell and grow. The fact that the yellow turned orange so quickly tells me that time is of the essence. Orange is moving darker and away from the brighter part of the color spectrum. Music, entertainment, lack of worship, minimal intercession, lack of graciousness, demanding, manipulation of situations for the outcome I want vs. doing the work and letting God worry about the results. Those sound so horrible but they are prevalent; perhaps dressed up as “liberty” or “freedom”, hard worker, go getter, firm, and determined. Many would say my leadership gifts are special. But when I am the Lord of them, they are witchcraft. I’m am repenting of not loving the Word, my time with God or his children the way I should. I it must start with me before it ever reaches the ministry God has stewarded me with. Funny, I am sitting here watching the sun come up and know that his mercies abound.
