Advent Day 11: To Your Name

Day 11: To Your Name
A selection from 25 Days of Glory 2023, adapted 2024

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness!
Psalm 115:1

But to your name… Can we take a minute and consider his name? Let’s start with Isaiah 9 since we are in the Advent season.

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Isaiah 9:6-7

I love that this prophecy in Isaiah not only highlights Jesus’ name but also his kingdom’s rule. That’s why. That’s why the glory cannot be to us. Our names are fading. But Jesus’ name and his kingdom are only increasing. Glory!

When we respond to his name by giving him all the glory, our lives are overwhelmed with everything he is. It’s for his sake, and for the sake of his government — established to uphold justice and righteousness.

As we celebrate your birth, Jesus, and prepare our hearts for your return, we exalt your name—the name above every other. Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.
