Day 12: King of Glory
A selection from 25 Days of Glory 2023, adapted 2024
Psalm 24 is a prophetic picture of Jesus coming as the Messiah, but also a picture of his return as King of Kings. It’s in two sections. The first section describes a generation of people who seek the face of God. They will be holy like him—clean hands, pure hearts, no falsehood, no deceit.
The end of Psalm 24 begins by encouraging us to lift up our heads (to look) so the King of Glory can come in. As we seek–as we lift our eyes and set our gaze on Jesus–we won’t miss his coming. Amen. But then, there is a description of our King. It’s something!
Who is this King of Glory?
He is the LORD (supreme)
He is strong and mighty
He is mighty in battle
He is the LORD of hosts (Lord of armies — as in all of them: heavenly, angelic, multitudes of believers, etc.)
He is the King of Glory!
As we celebrate your birth, Jesus, and prepare our hearts for your return, we lift up our heads and gaze on the most beautiful and most glorious person ever to exist. We gaze on strength itself. King of glory, you are everything. Come, Lord, quickly.
Daily Reading: Psalm 24
The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers. Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
and does not swear deceitfully. He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob. Selah
Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord, strong and mighty, the Lord, mighty in battle! Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory! Selah
