There are times when journeying with the Lord is so narrow that the tension is almost unbearable. The times when the Lord has you in a full draw, like an archer with a bow and arrow. And you are completely out of give.
Maybe you know what I mean. The times when the Lord calls you to trust, and you know there is no other option, even though understanding is absent.
But the thing is
An archer knows how far to draw back a bow string so the arrow can accomplish its purpose.
The further you pull the string back, the more weight an arrow has behind it when it pierces a target.
And
Even in the tension of trusting, like an archer with his bow, we are still in the very capable, skillful hands of God. He is putting his whole back into the arrow’s flight.
And
The arrow is never closer to the archer than right before it flies. It waits face to face in full draw as the archer lines up his aim.
I was reminded this week of John 13:7 when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples. After Peter questioned him, Jesus answered, What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand… If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.
I cannot always see the full picture of what the Lord is calling me to and where he is leading. At times, it is uncomfortable beyond words. But I am learning that understanding comes when I follow. And, if Jesus wants to share with me, I am in.
