Day 12: Until It’s Complete

Day 12
Until It’s Complete, Gen. 28:12

I wanted to include the idea of generations in this series. Advent, after all, carries the idea of waiting and expectation. I don’t know the promises God has spoken to you and your family, but I know he is faithful!

God promised Abraham that his descendants would be like the stars. God renews this promise with Isaac and, again, with Jacob. That’s three generations of God encounters, three generations of watching and waiting, three generations of holding onto a promise from God. Remarkable.

In Jacob’s dream, when angels are ascending and descending, God speaks these words,

Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you. (Genesis 28)

Jacob wakes up saying, “Surely God is in the place, and I did not know it,” and he calls the place Bethel, which means “house of God.”

Of course, this inheritance exceeds three generations. As sons and daughters of God, we are part of that promise.

The point is, God is faithful to finish what he starts (Philippians 1:6). Even more, he never leaves us in the process. So hold on to the promises he has spoken. Keep watch!

This is Emmanuel: I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised
